“As you know, the choice for future directions can be an arduous headache to navigate, and requires earnest investigation. But the price to follow one's heart is without a numerable cost. Digging oneself into debt simply to achieve what is an essential foundation for an aspiring future may be an unquestionable measure to take, but the stresses and hardships it brings are real elements to endure. The contributions we can all make to strengthen our collective gains, wellbeing, and cultural vitality, are noble to give and gratefully received. I can only vision that with my efforts in the arts, and all the avenues I am yet to take, what training, what skills, what experiences I can take with me to light my path and those of others, will really be just a flourishing expansion of that which I am given. The theatre program at Douglas has given me great soil, and this scholarship-support has given me water. I'd like to thank the RBPAS very much for helping me move forward.”

“The Raymond Burr Scholarship Award came to me at a very crucial time in my life where I was beginning to doubt myself and my art. Knowing that someone had seen and appreciated my work meant the world to me; And after chatting with the members of the board and realizing what an impact Raymond Burr continues to have on young artists, it helped give me the push to work hard in all my classes, and eventually graduate from my theatre program. I am currently taking a year off to explore various forms of my passion for art, and I know that this push from the Raymond Burr Scholarship award will continue to lead me to exciting prospects and developments. Thank you.”

“Raymond Burr sadly passed away exactly 8 months after I was born.  At the time, I had no concept of who the man was or how his legacy would later affect my life.  21 years later I found myself pursuing my dream at an academic level, a dream that Mr. Burr and I shared, and I was lucky enough to receive the Raymond Burr Performing Arts Society 2nd Year Entrance Award of Distinction (wow! That's a mouthful!).  Although I was not expecting such an honour, I felt truly blessed that my work and my passion had been noticed.  Because of this award, I was able to continue my studies in Europe where I have recently graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Acting.  Not only did this award greatly help me in my pursuits, but receiving it gave me the confidence to keep moving forward, and to keep trying new things, and to keep working to improve peoples lives through the act of story telling.  To me, acting and theatre are about making the world a better place, whether it be on a large scale, or a smaller everyday scale, whether it be in pursuit of political and ethical revolution, or if it's just to make one person smile, to me, theatre must do good. And I think that's something most actors can agree on.  I'm sure Mr. Burr would have agreed with me.  I'm sad that I never had the honour of meeting Raymond Burr, but I'm thankful that he existed. And I'm humbled that even after his death, he continues to do good, not just for me, but for everyone who has received this award long before me and everyone who will continue to receive it long after me.

Thank you to the Raymond Burr Performing Arts Society and to Douglas College”

“The Raymond Burr Award helped me to buy my textbooks I needed for second semester. The award also showed me that if you strive for the highest, and show good leadership skills  with fellow colleagues there are bursaries to  award you for all your hard work.”

“As a musician and technical stagehand, I have worked both sides of the entertainment industry.  Douglas College gave me valuable knowledge and experience to work on the technical side of the arts and Raymond Burr’s award helped me to achieve that.  More specifically The Raymond Burr award helped pay for a portion of my schooling, which in turn has kept me working in the arts as both an entertainer and entertainment technician.  Thank you for continuing to help struggling artists achieve their dreams, this is definitely a great way to carry on Raymond Burr’s legacy.”
